Course content

Fertilis® - Bacillus subtilis E4-CDX

Promotes root growth and increase the resistance against turf pathogens.

Bacillus subtilis, selection E4-CDX® is a unique and effective strain of rhizosphere bacterium. Bacillus subtilis competes with harmful pathogens for space around the roots of the grass plant. Once established, it physically protects the roots and inhibits the advance of soil borne fungi such as fusarium.

Tests also show that Bacillus subtilis gives off a chemical that disorientates nematodes, so they can no longer find the root.

Bacillus subtilis, selection E4-CDX® stands out from all the other strains of Bacillus subtilis:

Once watered in, Bacillus subtilis, selection E4-CDX® operates in the rhizophere. Symbiosis with fine root hairs result in coverage of the entire root. This creates a live barrier protecting the whole root that disease can't penetrate. Therefore disease has no opportunities to set infection.

The double effect of Bacillus subtilis

Bacillus subtilis inhibits pathogens while also producing plant growth promoting benefits

Bacillus subtilis research

Other strains of Bacillus subtilis stay at the surface leaving fresh root growth vulnerable to disease. Bacillus subtilis, selection E4-CDX® is unique as it is the only strain that moves with the developing root, maintaining a barrier against disease.

The Microdochium nivale pathogen on the left side of the agar jar is unable to grow within the Bacillus subtilis sphere of influence on the right side. The influence of the inhibitor developed by Bacillus subtilis is clearly visible. Bacillus subtilis secretes various substances that slow down the development of plant-harmful fungi.

Bacillus subtilis E4-CDX® with added fertiliser has been proven to promote healthier root growth.

For maximum effect, Bacillus subtilis requires water, oxygen and a minimum soil temperature of 10°C +. However, bacterium does remain active from 5°C + Bacillus subtilis, selection E4-CDX® remains effective in the soil for approx 42 days (6 weeks).

Fertilis Speed® 18-5-8

What

Fertilis Speed® is an NPK complex fertiliser containing ISODUR® to promote growth and a quick green-up. Fertilis Speed® also contains Bacillus subtilis, selection E4-CDX® to compete with harmful pathogens and protect the roots.

When

Fertilis Speed® analysis is perfect for medium and high growth potential periods such as spring and summer. For maximum effect of Bacillus subtilis soil temperatures must be 10°C.

Where

The granule size of Fertilis Speed® is very fine and uniform and therefore ideal for high-quality sports turf surfaces and especially fine turf surfaces such as greens. Longevity of Fertilis Speed® is 4-6 weeks.

Why

Fertilis Speed® provides an immediate effect, with each granule containing macro and trace elements that dissolves quickly after irrigation. In addition, the unique Bacillus subtilis, selection E4-CDX®, promotes root growth and increases the resistance against turf pathogens.

Application

Apply evenly, at an application rate of 15-35g/m2 for turf <10mm avoiding overlapped or missed areas, using a suitable calibrated spreader.  If no rain falls during the 24 hours after application, irrigate the treated area thoroughly. Do not apply in frosty weather or hot, dry conditions. We recommend using PrecisionPro to ensure perfect application.

Nutrients explained

Discover the key functions of nutrients within Fertilis® for the plant.

nitrogen agrovista academy

  • A fundamental component for plant growth, being important for amino acid synthesis and subsequent protein formation
  • Formation of nucleic acids
  • Synthesis of chlorophyll and ATP (adenosine triphosphate)
  • Core role in photosynthesis and energy production

Potassium agrovista academy

  • Maintenance of water balance in the plant, and helps regulate cell water content and plant turgor, maintaining stem strength
  • Important role in transpiration by controlling stomatal pore opening and closing
  • Involved in transport of sugars from ‘sources’ to ‘sinks’
  • Good mobility in the plant

Magnesium agrovista academy

  • Central atom of chlorophyll molecule and is therefore essential for photosynthesis. However, typically this is only 15-20% of a plant's requirement for magnesium. Deficiency of magnesium will reduce the plants photosynthetic rate
  • Key activator of many enzyme reactions and protein synthesis
  • Transport of carbohydrates and amino acids from the leaf to the roots and shoots via the phloem
  • Important in nitrogen and phosphate metabolism
  • Regulates uptake and cell turgor together with K+

Sulphur agrovista academy

  • Sulphur is an essential component of proteins in plants since it is required for the formation of two amino acids (cysteine and methionine), that are the building blocks of proteins
  • Sulphur is also a component of enzymes (forming bonds within the enzyme structure) and vitamins
  • Sulphur is also involved in the reduction of nitrate to amino acids

TE Trace elements agrovista academy

Floranid®Twin Eagle contains the following trace elements:

  • B (Boron)
  • Fe (Iron)
  • Zn (Zinc)
  • Cu (Copper)
  • Mn (Manganese)
