Maxtima®

The dawn of a new era. Fast acting, long lasting first of its kind chemistry fungicide.

Course content

Overview

What

The active substance in Maxtima®, mefentrifluconazole, is the turf industry’s first ever isopropanol-azole. Maxtima® provides turf-safe broad-spectrum disease control. Mefentrifluconazole is a demethylase-inhibiting (DMI) fungicide that delivers exceptional performance due to its ability to bind more powerfully to the target site, resulting in long-lasting effectiveness and improved activity against a wide range of pathogens.

When

Maxtima® has a fast foliar absorption even in cold conditions provides long-lasting protection making it safe from rain and UV degradation. Mefentrifluconazole is less temperature dependent, showing an outstanding absorption at cooler temperatures even as low as 4°C.

Where

Authorised for use on managed amenity turf. Avoid application 48 hours prior to or immediately after mowing.

Why

Maxtima® is highly effective against the toughest of turf diseases, providing year-round protection against Dollar Spot and Microdochium Patch.

How

Obtaining the best results from any Plant Protection Product is enhanced by skilled application, with well calibrated equipment and correct nozzles choices. It is also important to consider the prevailing climate conditions and current stage of disease expression.

When combined with an inherent understanding of how an active substance functionally operates, both inside the plant and against the target pathogen, a turf manager is empowered with the knowledge and ability to obtain the best levels of performance and control.

For full guidance on the application requirements for Plant Protection Products always consult the product label, product authorisation notice and the Code of Practice for Using Plant Protection Products. Or contact your Agrovista Amenity Specialist directly.

Mefentrifluconazole

Long-lasting Mefentrifluconazole is the active substance in Maxtima® which is rapidly uptaken into the plant and quickly gets to work stopping active infections. The active ingredient remains inside the leaf tissue after uptake and is slowly released from this reservoir to provide longlasting protection of up to 28 days. In addition to its superior performance against many common turf fungal pathogens, Maxtima® has a favourable environmental profile with low application rates and low toxicity to non-target organisms. Its unique chemistry means that it is an excellent rotational partner.

Flexi-Power

Mefentrifluconazole differs from standard azoles due to a unique isopropanol component which enables the molecule to rotate freely, forming a hook which can bind tightly to the target fungal enzyme. This flexibility enables mefentrifluconazole to adapt to changing fungal strains and results in potent fungicidal activity. Its ability to create the “right key, fitting perfectly even to mutationally changed targets, enables proper resistance management with Maxtima®.

Mefentrifluconazole is the only molecule within the triazole group where the triazole “head” sits on the “neck” of a flexible Isopropanol unit. This unique configuration allows the molecule to flex and adapt to mutated target sites, controlling biotypes that may have developed resistance to other, overused DMI fungicides.

Leaf Absorption

Mefentrifluconazole shows up to 24 times faster absorption compared to other azoles as rapid leaf absorption translates to a rapid action on disease.

Super fast absorption of Mefentrifluconazole into the leaf ensures the Active Ingredient is naturally protected against external conditions like rain or UV light. Following absorption, leaf reservoirs allow durable Mefentrifluconazole translocation for local and long-lasting protection. Protected leaf reservoir ensures a continuous, slow release of Active Ingredient up to 28 days after application.

Binding & Performance

The performance of “conventional azoles” is strongly dependent on temperature. Tests have shown that temperatures below 13°C, limit their absorption and Mefentrifluconazole is less temperature dependent, showing an outstanding absorption at cooler temperatures even as low as 4°C.

Due to its flexibility, Mefentrifluconazole adopts different conformations which enable the molecule to bind to the pocket of the target enzyme more powerfully than other active ingredients. In fact, Mefentrifluconazole binds up to 100 times more powerfully than conventional azoles resulting in superior performance.
